JCS Process & Control Systems, an industry leader in beverage batching and processing technologies, is the power behind the UltraPhil Center for Aseptic Excellence, the world’s first and only small-scale, bottle-based pilot aseptic research, development, and production center.
The 10,000 square-foot UltraPhil Center for Aseptic Excellence leverages JCS’s significant beverage industry thought leadership, and an initial investment of more than $14 million in aseptic production technologies and laboratories, to create what is a critical industry resource.
Small-scale, for-hire aseptic pilot production lines for a diversity of beverage formulations do not currently exist for PET and HDPE bottle-based products. UltraPhil allows beverage manufacturers large and small to come in and perfect production processes for their shelf-stable aseptic beverage products in small quantities. This will help beverage manufacturers expedite the new product development process and speed up time to market while reducing product development expenses.
UltraPhil supports a broad array of beverage product formulations including, fluid milk beverage products, protein based low/high acid beverages, plant-based protein drinks, dairy and non-dairy based coffees and teas, nutritional drinks, 100% juice and juice drinks, as well as sports drinks. UltraPhil allows manufacturers to create samples at a pilot scale for consumer tests, shelf-life studies, and sales samples, much earlier in the innovation process versus having to wait for first commercial runs. Until now, this hasn’t been possible.
UltraPhil will be a strategic resource for research and development, product development, and ingredients and packaging personnel from across the global aseptic beverage formulation and processing industry.
Manufacturers utilizing the UltraPhil Center to research and test their products leave 100% confident that, when they return to their own facilities to produce full-scale batches, the product will taste just how it did at UltraPhil.
The fully FDA-validated and licensed facility is led by a tenured team of aseptic beverage processing and engineering experts.

Held many roles within company operations of during his 34 years, providing process solutions and services to the food and beverage industry. Helped to design, innovate, and deliver many of the product offerings of JCS, including their Ultra™ brand of UHT’s.
John Eaton
Prior roles include Director of R&D, Aseptic & New Technology SME at PepsiCo, Capital Project Manager & R&D Manager for Cadbury Schweppes (now Keurig Dr. Pepper) in their Packing, Processing, & Product Development departments, JCS Project Manager.
Robert Veitch
Over 18 years prior experience innovating, engineering, problem solving, and developing commercial products for to the food & beverage industry.
The UltraPhil Center for Aseptic Excellence pays tribute to Phil Frechette, an industry thought leader and the founder of JCS Process Controls. Phil served the process control industry for more than 50 years. During his tenure, he led the advancement of several technologies in product standardization, aseptic processing, and advanced control strategies for the Food and Beverage Industries. Phil was instrumental in JCS’s growth strategy, including key partnerships in international markets. Phil retired from JCS in January 2022 and, unfortunately, passed away in March of 2022.

If you are not using the same equipment as UltraPhil, our flexible batching and processing systems provide replication of your systems to allow you to have confidence in the success of your scale-up and product roll out.
Shipment of Materials / Pickup of Samples
- Receiving times : 8AM – 4PM, Monday – Friday
- All deliveries (non UPS/FedEx/USPS/DHL etc.) and pickups MUST be scheduled at least 24-hours in advance
- Drivers are to call the UltraPhil main number 15-minutes prior to arrival (docks are unmanned) 585-910-2952 x0
- Loading docks are located on the back of Sibley Square, off Franklin Court, off Franklin St
- Drivers should back up to Door #2 (which has an orange & black dock lift located outside the door)
- IMPORTANT: Unscheduled deliveries or deliveries outside of receiving hours may be turned away due to conflicts or no resources to receive
For Your Visit
- Safety shoes and glasses are required
- We will provide you with safety glasses if you do not have your own
- If you wear prescription glasses, you must wear prescription safety glasses or over-glasses safety glasses (provided)
- We do not provide safety shoes
- You will be required to gown-up for your visit, this includes the above mentioned items as well as hair/beard nets, earplugs and a labcoat, please dress comfortably and be prepared to comply with our standard GMPs
- No sleeveless shirts
- No jewelry other than plain wedding bands (all other jewelry must be removed)
- No painted or fake nails, no fake eyelashes
Parking & Access
- We are located in Sibley Square in downtown Rochester at 250 E Main St, Suite 100
- Parking is provided in St. Joe’s Garage, entrance at 72 N Clinton Ave
- If parking in the St. Joe’s Garage, enter the building through the first level of the parking garage at the southeastern corner (look for the “Live Work Grow” mural). Continue inside until you see a large atrium, UltraPhil will be located directly to your left
- If you are at a nearby hotel within walking distance, you can enter Sibley Square at 260 E Main St, and proceed down the hall. Turn left after the Security Desk, the UltraPhil entrance will be on your right
